Mavs Lose: 0 - 7
The Mavericks lost 7-0 Friday night, but battled valiantly against the highly ranked and heavily favored perennial powerhouse Cranbrook Kingswood, in the first round of the State Playoffs, ending Milford's (13-13) season. The Cranes scored three times in the first five minutes of the game and took a 4-0 lead after one period and led 7-0 after two periods, but the Mavs were able to avoid the dreaded mercy (eight goal differential) by playing Cranbrook to a 0-0 third period tie.   Milford's four graduating Seniors, Ben Kozar, Tyler Tori, Tristan Ingram-Reeve and Tyler Kerr all played arguably their best games of the year, while their leadership helped keep the Mavs focused, competitive and combative right up until the final horn, despite the lopsided score. Tendy Kerr finished with 37 saves, including a few incredible, body torquing blocks to fend off the mercy, while the Cranes' Noah Goldberger had 18, including a couple Mav breakaways, for the shutout. Milford Hockey would like to thank everybody for their support this season!  Our crowd was usually bigger and more boisterous every game, even the away games, and your boys really appreciate it. Good luck to our hoops teams as they ready for Districts and Milford Cheer in their Regionals! Thanks again and Go Mavs!

Mavs Lose: 3 - 4
The Mavericks saw their three game winning streak come to an exciting end Saturday afternoon at the OAA Showcase, as the Bloomfield Hills Black Hawks (17-7-1) beat Milford (13-12) in a shootout after the tilt was tied at 3 after three. The Hawks took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, firing 15 shots at Mav tendy Tyler Kerr to the Milford's 7 against Hawk goalie Jeremy Kahan. Milford was a different team in the second, taking the play to Bloomfield Hills and flipping both the shot totals and score, with Pierce Ashcroft getting the skunk out of the box at the 12:35 mark with assists from lineys Mack Musialowski and Austin Combs before the Mavs' Senior line knotted it at 2 with Tyler Tori filling after 30 seconds of sharkish forechecking with apples to Tristan Ingram-Reeve and Ben Kozar. The Mavs started the third period with 21 seconds remaining on a power play, but an unfortunate bounce resulted in a shorty and 3-2 lead for the Hawks.  Milford's Kozar tied it at 3 with an assist to Tori with 10:29 to go.  Both tendys made nice saves the rest of the way to send the game to a three player shootout instead of the usual 8 minute OT, per Showcase rules. The Hawk's first shooter, Kyle Lucia, sniped a wicked wrister on the Mav's Kerr which turned out to be the difference, as Bloomfield Hills' goaltender Kahan stymied all three of Milford's leading goal scorers, Musialowski, Combs and Kozar, on their attempts. Kerr finished with the game with 30 saves and completed the regular season with an excellent .915 save percentage. The game was a solid primer for the Mavs as they take on Cranbrook Kingswood Wednesday night, 7:15PM at Southfield Civic Arena in a rematch of last year's Regional Cranes' victory.  Cranbrook is coming off of a 2-1 win over #3 ranked overall in the State, Brother Rice, so Milford will have to be at their best to upset the heavily favored Cranes. "If we play tough in the tough areas, smart in the smart areas, minimize careless passes and put it all together like we've been shooting for all season, I like our chances," said Coach Gagnon in a postgame conference call.  We're hopeful to see a sea of red and black Mav Faithful and MavManiacs in Southfield Wednesday night!

Mavs Win: 10 - 7
Freshmen Mack Musialowski erupted for five goals to lead Milford to a 10-7 victory Saturday night at Hartland over the M-1 Griffins Unified, a team comprised predominately of Berkley High School hockey players, on a night celebrating Milford's four Seniors and their Parents. The Griffins' Josh Dudovitz, an Elite Brigade veteran, lit the lamp just 31 seconds after puck drop for a 1-0, short lived lead, as Musialowski answered 29 seconds later to tie it, with assists to lineys Pierce Ashcroft and leading scorer Austin Combs. The teams traded goals and ended the first tied at 3.   Milford (13-11) scored 33 seconds into the second, Musialowski from Ashcroft with the pair connecting again on their next shift to give the Mavs a two goal lead early in the frame.  Senior Tristan Ingram-Reeve gave Milford a seemingly comfortable 3 goal lead with help from Senior Captain Ben Kozar and Junior Josh Raya before the Griffins pumped in two quick goals with over three minutes left in the period to make it 6-5. The Mavs Luke McIntyre extended the lead to 2 at the 2:00 mark of the second, with an assist from Combs. Milford started the third strong, as Musialowski buried a breakaway off of a sweet stretch feed from Kazuma Bowring to make it 8-5 merely 27 seconds in for the Mavs, the third time Milford scored in the first minute of a period in the game. The Griffins weren't done, as they scored two goals with under five minutes remaining to bring it back to a one goal game before Ashcroft scored, his first of the contest to go along with four assists, with 1:34 left from Combs, his third apple.  Kozar twined the empty net with 12 seconds left to complete the scoring and give the Mavs their third win in a row. Milford stellar netminder Senior Tyler Kerr finished with 37 saves.  Freshmen Shane Quinn also factored in the scoring with an assist on Musialowski's second goal. The Mavs travel to the Rochester Onyx next Saturday for a 4:15 drop against Oxford/Avondale in their final regular season tilt before their February 26 Regional rematch with Cranbrook Kingswood at Southfield Civic. "On behalf of Milford High School and Milford Hockey, a huge Thank You to our four graduating Seniors, Tyler Tori, Ben Kozar, Tristan Ingram-Reeve, Tyler Kerr and their Parents for everyone's contribution to our Program.  You will be missed," said fourth year Head Coach Gagnon.

Mavs Win: 10 - 2
It was a special night for the Combs Cousins, as Junior Austin garnered his 100th point in his second season as a Maverick, and Sophomore Tucker sniped his first goal of the season to help lead Milford over the Bay Area Thunder Saturday night at Hartland. Fourteen different Mav skaters factored in the scoring.  Captain Ben Kozar had three goals and an assist, Tristan Ingram-Reeve had two and two, Kazuma Bowring dished three apples, Mack Musialowski notched the Mav's first goal and had two helpers, Austin Combs had one and one, James Pennebaker, Josh Raya and Tucker Combs each scored and Ryan Hanlin, Shane Quinn, Luke McIntyre, Pierce Ashcroft, Adam Moule and Tyler Tori all had assists. Milford managed 53 shots at Thunder goaltender Toby Pobanz, who made many miraculous saves to keep Bay City in the game before the mercy rule was applied with just over five minutes remaining in the third. Mav Sophomore tendy Harris Partyka finished with 15 saves on 17 shots and picked up his third win of the season. Milford played a penalty free game despite being on the receiving end of a few after the whistle and unsuspecting blindside hits, which is indicative of the Mav's tough and disciplined demeanor.  Milford Hockey would like to thank volunteer, in game scorekeeper officials Jason Chaldecott and Mark Osinski for their support of Milford Hockey and their excellent game day work as well as Milford Freshmen Charlotte Bontrager for her singing of The Star-Spangled Banner to help get the boys fired up at home games. The Mavericks host the M-1 Griffins next Saturday at 7:30PM.  The final home game of the season will also be Senior Night to honor our four graduating Seniors. Please c'mon out to say goodbye to our Seniors and to cheer on your hockey Team, Saturday the 15th, as Milford continues to prepare for a much anticipated Regional rematch with Cranbrook February 26.

Mavs Win: 5 - 1
The Mavericks got back to .500 on the season with a closer than the score indicated 5-1 victory Thursday night against a well coached Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard/Greenhills. The Irish took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission with a goal from Jack Lapinski with help from Stephen Holody. But Milford (11-11) scored the next five goals, led by leading scorer Austin Combs who scored just 14 seconds into the second to tie it, with assists from Nick Bow and Pierce Ashcroft.  Kazuma Bowring was in the right place at the right time, as usual, and banged in a beauty off of a behind the net bump feed from Combs with a secondary to Ashcroft late in the period to give the Mavs a 2-1 lead after two. Milford struck again within the first minute of the third, Ashcroft from Combs and fellow liney Mack (Moose) Musialowski to put the Mavs up by two.  The Mavs netted two late period power play goals, Ashcroft from Bowring and Combs and Ben Kozar from Thomas Kennedy and Tyler Tori. Milford tendy Tyler Kerr finished with 33 saves on the night while Irish netty Jake Janowski had 29. Nick Bow was awarded the coveted Mav Chain for his solid defensive performance. The Mavs host the Bay Area Thunder Saturday night 7:30 at Hartland and then celebrate their graduating Seniors February 15 against the M-1 Griffins 7:30 on Senior Night.

Mavs Lose: 2 - 7
The Mavs came to play, but didn't have quite enough to hold off a solid and balanced Flint Powers Catholic, losing 7-2 Tuesday night at Flint's Icelander Arenas. The game was tied 2-2 after one, with Milford (10-11) getting a sweet one timer from Kazuma Bowring off of a cross zone feed from Pierce Ashcroft with a secondary assist from Austin Combs and a goal from Tyler Tori, the result of some heavy forechecking pressure from lineys Ben Kozar and Tristan Ingram-Reeve. Powers scored two in the second to take a 4-2 lead into the second intermission, but scored just 11 seconds into the third to take a comfortable 3 goal lead, which was too much for Milford to overcome. Mav tendy Tyler Kerr was busy and made some spectacular saves against the high octane Powers offense and finished with 53 saves, while his counterpart made 18. Milford hosts the next three games at Hartland, taking on Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard Thursday 7PM, the Bay Area Thunder Saturday 7:30 PM and the M-1 Griffins Unified Saturday February 15 at 7:30PM, which is also Senior Night. "When you play good team like Powers, there's little margin for error.  We've got to keep it simple, win the battles, and want it more than they do," said fourth year Coach Gagnon. Please come on out and cheer on your Milford Hockey Team as they continue to represent our School and Community with class and discipline while they prepare for their State Tournament Regional clash with Cranbrook February 26 at Southfield.

Mavs Win: 10 - 2
Junior Austin Combs netted the hat trick, along with two assists, to lead the Mavs past an injury depleted Walled Lake Central/Waterford Unified Wednesday night at Lakeland. Milford threw 67 shots at WLC/WU goalie Tyler Krasofsky and ended up scoring 10 to WLC/WU's 2. In addition to Combs stellar scoring night, Senior Captain Ben Kozar had two goals and an assist, Freshmen Mack Musialowski scored one with two dishes, Sophomores Pierce Ashcroft and Brenden Maszatics and Senior Tyler Tori each had one and one, Sophomore Adam Moule and Junior Kazuma Bowring both had two assists, Freshmen Thomas Kennedy chipped in with one apple. Junior Quentin Daniere scored his first goal as a Maverick much to the delight of his teammates in the second period. Everybody's favorite teammate, Sophomore Tucker Combs, was stymied on a penalty shot attempt in the third period as he tried to go five hole on the busy WLC/WU tendy, while his Brothers were ready to erupt had he scored. Sophomore Harris Partyka had 12 saves for Milford. The Mavs travel to Flint's Icelander Arenas Tuesday to take on perennial state powerhouse Flint Powers Catholic at 6PM.

Mavs Lose: 2 - 6
The Mavericks outshot Farmington United (8-7-1), but had trouble solving United's talented tendy, Bryn Sommerfeldt, and ended up losing 6-2 Saturday night in Farmington. Not only was Sommerfeldt a brick wall in net with 35 saves, he managed to score a goal with just over two minutes remaining while the Mavs had their goalie pulled for an extra attacker, a rare and nearly impossible feat. Kazuma Bowring and Ben Kozar each scored for Milford (9-10), Pierce Ashcroft had two assists, and Mack Musialowski and Austin Combs had one. Tyler Kerr and Harris Partyka shared the goaltending duties for the Mavs and combined for 20 saves. The Mavs travel to Lakeland Wednesday for a 7:15 drop against Walled Lake Central/Waterford United.
Boys Varsity Ice Hockey vs. Walled Lake Western High School

Mavs Lose: 2 - 7
The Mavs fell behind a solid Walled Lake Western Warriors 4-0 one minute into the second period before Freshmen Mack Musialowski one timed a perfect feed from Junior Kazuma Bowring in the last minute of the period to make it 4-1 after two. The Warriors (10-3) scored the next three goals within the first six minutes of the third, two power play goals on a few questionable game changing calls that ruined any chance of a Mavericks (9-9) comeback, helping the Warriors to a 7-1 lead. Senior Captain Ben Kozar scored from behind the net with assists to Senior Tyler Tori and Bowring, his second of the game, to make it 7-2 with 7:32 left in the game, and that's how it ended. Senior Mav tendy Tyler Kerr made 49 saves on the night, while his counterpart Will Virtamo had 31. Western's Tommy Patrick had a big night with the hat trick and two assists, while Jeff Petruno had two goals and a helper for the Warriors. Milford travels to Farmington Hills Ice Arena Saturday evening for a 6:30 tilt with Farmington United.

Mavs Lose: 2 - 4
The Knights of Walled Lake Northern (2-13-1) avenged a December overtime loss to the Mavericks (9-8) with a 4-2 victory Wednesday night at Lakeland. The Mavs had plenty of chances and finished with 34 shots on net, in addition to the 12 errant shot attempts that sailed well over the crossbar and bounced harmlessly off of the plexiglass behind Northern keeper Jonah Stern, who was called into action when starting goalie Brady Arens was hit with the flu bug during warmups. Northern's Tyler Skiles got the skunk out of the box just two and half minutes in to give the Knights the early lead before Milford's leading scorer Austin Combs evened it with 2:48 left in the first on a power play goal with help from Pierce Ashcroft and Kazuma Bowring. The second period was scoreless despite both teams generating quality chances, with Milford's Tyler Kerr and Northern's Skiles both making huge saves to keep it at one after two periods. The Knights' Michael O'Connor gave Northern the lead at 9:40 of the third, before the Mavs' Ben Kozar knotted it at two with a solo effort with 5:48 to go.  Skiles struck again just 37 second later, which turned out to be the game winner, with an assist to O'Connor, who flung in an empty netter with 37 seconds to go for his second goal to complete the scoring. "They were ready to play and we weren't.  Too many guys worried about individual stats and not what really matters.  We were outcoached, outworked and outtoughed.  Hats off to Coach Sorrels and the Knights.  They're far better than their record and deserved the win tonight," whispered a majorly disappointed Coach Gagnon. Milford hosts league foe Walled Lake Western Thursday night 7PM at Hartland.

Mavs Lose: 5 - 6
The many fans in attendance were treated to a fast paced and well played hockey contest between the Mavericks and Lakeland Eagles Wednesday night at Lakeland.  The Eagles prevailed 6-5 in the rematch of Milford's win in December. The game was played in honor of the legacy of Matt Langley and the Matt Langley Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to the promotion and financing of life-saving heart defect screens for students.  The Foundation also awards two $1000 scholarships annually to one player from each of the Milford and Lakeland hockey teams through donations and support of the Foundation's annual golf outing.   The Mavs blasted out of the gate, scoring just 23 seconds after puck drop, Austin Combs with a top shelf snipe from a perfect pass from Mack Musialowski with a secondary apple to Pierce Ashcroft.  Lakeland would score the next three to stake the Eagles to a 3-1 lead after one period. The first four minutes of the second was a flurry of activity, as the teams traded goals resulting in a 5-3 Lakeland lead with 13 minutes remaining in the period.  Milford's Tristan Ingram-Reeve one timed a perfect feed from Ben Kozar with a secondary to Tyler Tori followed by Combs second goal from Adam Moule and Thomas Kennedy for the Mav's goals. Lakeland scored on a power play deflection near the end of the period to make it 6-3 after two. The Mavs scored within the first minute of the third, Mack Musialowski one timing a dart off of a beautiful tic-tac-toe play from Combs and Ashcroft to bring Milford within two with plenty of game left. Both teams generated several scoring opportunities before Milford's Kazuma Bowring buried an across the royal road feed from Combs with help from Ashcroft, his third assist of the game, to make it 6-5 with a little over four minutes to go. The Mavs pulled tendy Tyler Kerr, who finished with 36 saves, and generated some quality chances with the extra attacker, but couldn't get the equalizer, finally succumbing to the Eagles after 51 minutes of back and forth action. Both student sections were well represented and raucous, with the MavManiacs and Blue Crew trying to outdo one another and help energize their hard battling classmates. Milford travels to Troy Saturday night to face Notre Dame Marist with a 6:10 start time.
Boys Varsity Ice Hockey vs. South Lyon High School

Mavs Lose: 3 - 8
The Mavericks found themselves down by four goals to highly ranked South Lyon Unified, a team comprised of both South Lyon high schools, after almost two full periods of action, before team leading point producer Junior Austin Combs scored a power play goal from Freshmen Mack Musialowski with 2:23 to go in the second to breathe some life into the hard working Mavs.  Junior Dominic Leto followed with another power play goal less than a minute later with assists from Senior Captain Ben Kozar and Musialowski to get Milford within two after two. SLU scored the next goal at the 13:39 mark of the third period to take a 5-2 lead, before the Mavs converted on yet another power play, Musialowski with his second of the night from lineys Combs and Sophomore Pierce Ashcroft to pull back within two, 5-3 at 12:56 of the third. Fans in attendance were treated to a fast paced and action packed third period between the first and second place Lakes Valley Conference teams as Milford hung tough with the 17th ranked team in the State (out of 139) before SLU netted two empty net goals in the last three minutes as well as an even strength goal with 15 seconds to go for the 8-3 victory. Milford goalie Tyler Kerr was his usual sharp self with 44 saves while SLU's Andrew Lowen made 32 stops. The Mavs travel to Lakeland Wednesday for a 7:20 drop against league rival the Eagles in what should be a doozy of a tilt.  If you're a hockey fan, or even if you aren't, you don't want to miss this one.
Boys Varsity Ice Hockey vs. Lumen Christi Catholic High School

Mavs Lose: 0 - 3
It was a rough start of the decade for the Mavs (9-5) Thursday night at Hartland as the Jackson Lumen Christi Titans (10-1) whitewashed Milford 3-0. Senior Tyler Kerr continued his All-State caliber play for the Mavs as he made 41 saves on the night to give Milford a chance, but his counterpart Lucas Henderson was equally up to the task with 28 saves for the shutout. The shutout was the fourth in a row for the well coached Titans. The Mavs appeared to have drawn within two with 3:20 to go on a whizzing, board pad clearing wrister by Junior Kaz Bowring while the Mavs enjoyed 6 on 4 man advantage with a power play and Kerr pulled for the extra attacker, but the refs determined that the net was of its moorings prior to the puck going in and waved off the apparent goal. Milford hosts defending league champ South Lyon Unified, the 17th ranked team in the State out of 139 Michigan high school hockey teams, this Saturday 4:30 at Hartland.  The contest has league implications as the Mavs hold second place and trail SLU by only one game. C'mon out MavManiacs and MavFaithful and get LOUD as we need all the help we can get to upset a very talented rival and avenge an early season loss.

Mavs Win: 6 - 3
Your Hockey Mavericks (9-4) won their second game in a row in yet another hard fought battle, this time against their rink mates, the Fenton/Linden Griffins, Saturday afternoon at Hartland, with a well earned 6-3 Holiday victory. The Griffins struck first on a breakaway goal just 36 seconds into the contest, Ethan Hutchings from Hayden Justus, on a midair puck knockdown along the defensive wall by Justus that sprung Hutchings mano y mano on Milford's outstanding tendy Senior Tyler Kerr, who was beaten on the play, before he went on to stop the next 29 shots he faced, until giving way to Sophomore keeper Harris Partyka who made 8 saves on the ten shots he faced.  The Mavs scored the next six goals, Kaz (Zoom) Bowring from Austin (AC) Combs and Mack (Moose) Musialowski, Liam Markell from Tyler (t2) Tori and Freshmen Shane Quinn, Moose from Sophomore Pierce Ashcroft and Zoom, Ashcroft with an apple from Senior Brendan (Big Engs) Engel, Junior Dominic Leto with a well earned PP bang home front net battle rebound win, and Moose with the Mavs sixth from Ashcroft and Combs. Bowring was awarded the coveted Mav MVP Chain by the coaches for yet another outstanding game from Kaz who dominated all over the ice sheet. Senior Loren Jones made 41 saves for the Griffins. Milford finishes the first half of the season with a 9-4 record, and are elated to represent our Community and win the last game of the decade in homage to the old Redskins and the current Mavericks. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to our MavManiacs and Mav Faithful, along with our players of the present, past, parents, and Mavs to be! We are Milford!

Mavs Win: 5 - 4
The Mavs escaped with a hard fought 5-4 overtime victory over a big and determined Walled Lake Northern Knights Thursday night at Hartland. Milford tendy Tyler Kerr made 44 saves, a couple of the "how'd he do that?!" variety and earned the Mav MVP Chain awarded to Milford's 'Player of the Game.' The Mavs welcomed the return of leading scorer Austin Combs, who missed the last game with an upper body injury, as he scored two goals, including the game winner in OT.  Tristan Ingram-Reeve scored his first of the season on a power play rebound, Ben Kozar scored on a sweet breakaway deke and Adam Moule filled with a well placed shot from the slot.  Kaz Bowring had three assists, Mack Musialowski and Tyler Tori each had two, and Pierce Ashcroft had one. Milford was successful on two of its three power play opportunities and played a disciplined game with just two penalties. The Mavs take on rinkmates Fenton Linden Griffins Saturday 1PM at Hartland before enjoying a six day, well deserved rest and recovery period over the Holiday break. Fenton Linden is the Home team Saturday, so the MavManiacs and Mav Faithful will be using the stands across from the visitors' bench. Hope to see everyone Saturday!

Mavs Lose: 2 - 4
The Mavs lost to the West Bloomfield Lakers (5-2) Saturday afternoon at Lakeland 4-2. Milford (7-4) fired 15 shots on the Lakers Steven McCotter in the first period, but was unable push the puck over the goal line, resulting in a 0-0 knot after one. West Bloomfield's Evan Pelkey scored the first of his four goals early in the second period to give the Lakers the lead before the Mavs' Tyler Tori tied it with assists from Liam Markell and Ben Kozar late in the period.  Pelkey netted his second with two minutes left to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead after two. Milford's Kozar tied it at the 13:25 mark of the third period with helpers from Luke McIntyre and Adam Moule, but the Lakers converted two power play goals for the 4-2 victory. The Mavs' Tyler Kerr kept Milford in the game with some spectacular saves and finished with 31 stops while McCotter had 37. Milford hosts league foe Walled Lake Northern Thursday 7PM at Hartland in their final home game of the decade.  The boys are hoping that the Stable is full Thursday with the MavManiacs, the best student section in the State!

The Mavs lost Thursday night to the Rochester Stoney Creek Cougars 4-1 at the Onyx in Rochester. Milford took a 1-0 lead into the third period from a first period goal from Senior Ben Kozar with assists from Seniors Brendan Engel and Tyler Tori, before the hardworking and motivated Cougars pumped in four third period goals, one short handed and one empty netter with 2:50 left, to earn the comeback victory. The Mavs' Tyler Kerr made 43 saves, including several beauties as he continued his stellar play between the pipes for Milford, while his counterpart Ben Rupprecht made 24 saves for Stoney Creek.  The Cougars' Will Boyer led Creek with two goals and one assist. The Mavs travel to Lakeland Arena Saturday for a 2PM tilt with West Bloomfield. The boys need the MavManiacs in full force Saturday as they attempt to get back in the winner's circle.

Mavs Win: 5 - 3
Your Hockey Mavs beat the Lakeland Eagles 5-3 Monday night at Hartland to bring the Milford Barber's Cup back to Milford after seven seasons of futility. The Mavs were led by Senior Tendy Tyler Kerr who finished with 47 saves, many key glove offs and Junior Dominic Leto who banged in two power play goals early in the second period to earn Dom the coveted Mav Chain which will surely hang loosely on his neck at school Tuesday and maybe even Wednesday. Milford took a convincing 5-1 lead into the third, behind Liam Markell's early first period bad angle snipe with an assist to Senior Captain Ben Kozar, before Kozar scored unassisted for a 2-0 Milford lead, which prefaced Leto's two hardworking, rebound bang homes before Zoom Bowring blasted his first of the year from state leading point getter Junior Austin Combs, who finished with two assists and five shots on net. The Eagles refused to yield and toss in the towel and battled right down to the last minute before the final horn. The joint was packed with MavManiacs, the Mav Faithful and an impressive contingent of traveling Lakeland fans.  The Mavs travel to Rochester Stoney Creek for a non-league Thursday night tilt before heading to Lakeland Saturday for another non-league game against West Bloomfield 2PM at Lakeland. "What an awesome night of high school hockey!" exclaimed Milford Coach Gagnon, "Big crowd, big win for our Mavs against a very talented and well coached Eagle squad, and an all around awesome night at our Home arena!"

Mavs Win: 6 - 4
Austin Combs pumped in four goals to lead the Mavs to a hard fought 6-4 victory over the rugged and determined Walled Lake Western Warriors Saturday night at KVIH. Milford (6-2) scored four goals in the first period, with Combs starting the festivities off just 17 seconds after puck drop off a feed from Gold linemate Pierce Ashcroft.  Junior Combs netted two power play goals late in the first for the natural hat trick with assists from lineys Mack (Moose) Musialowski and Ashcroft, along with an assist from Kaz Bowring, who finished the night with two apples as he quarterbacked the power play with efficient precision.  Senior Captain Ben Kozar netted his sixth of the season 25 seconds after Combs natural hatty with assists from Liam Markell and Tyler Tori to give the Mavs a 4-1 lead after one. The Mavs scored twice in the second, Moose Musialowski unassisted and Combs' fourth from Bowring for the Mavs third PP goal of the game to stake Milford to a seemingly comfortable 6-1 lead after two. But the Warriors kept up the good fight and scored three third period goals to make a game of it, with Jeff Petruno finishing the night with two goals for Western. Milford's Tyler Kerr made 37 saves for the victory, his fifth of the season. The Mavs were again well represented by the MavManiacs and the Mav Faithful as the Milford crowd substantially outnumbered Western's fan base, helping to spur Milford to victory. The Mavs host LVC foe and rival Lakeland Monday 7PM at Hartland.

Mavs Lose: 1 - 7
The Mavs came up a furlong short against defending LVC league champs South Lyon Unified, a combined team consisting of players from both South Lyon high schools, 7-1, Thursday night at Brighton. South Lyon scored three short handed goals which was the difference in the evenly played game.   Tyler Kerr continued his strong net play for the Mavs with 29 saves, while SLU's Andrew Lowen made 25 saves for the win. Liam Markell scored his fourth goal of the season, a power play snipe from the right faceoff dot off a pass through the 'royal road' from Ben Kozar with a secondary assist to Austin Combs. SLU amassed 17 penalties to the Mavs' 7, but Milford was unable to capitalize enough on the man advantage, despite several good scoring chances during the PP. The MavManiacs were in full force along with the Mav Faithful and were definitely the livelier and more enthusiastic of a big crowd that saw plenty of entertaining hockey action. "They're a tough, physical team that took it to us in the first.  We came back strong in the second and took it to them, but they banged home three goals in under a minute at the end of the second that did us in," said fourth year Coach Gagnon.  "This is a game we'll learn from and get better." Milford travels to Brighton for a Saturday night tilt against Lakes Valley Conference foe Walled Lake Western, 7:30 puck drop at KVIH. There may even be a jersey or six given out to our boisterous traveling MavManiac Student Section at nearby Brighton Saturday night.  C'mon out! Thank you for your support and Go Mavs!

Mavs Win: 5 - 4
After a five goal first period outburst, the back-to-back to-back All-State Academic Milford Mavericks (5-1) tightened the cinches and held on for a hard fought, penalty filled 5-4 victory over aggressive and well coached Livonia Franklin Friday night at Eddie Edgar. Milford had the pleasure of meeting and discussing life and hockey with Livonia Stevenson's outstanding Coach Mr. David Mitchell about an hour before the game which likely contributed to the Mavs first period outburst.  The Mavs were led by goaltender Tyler Kerr who made 46 saves on 50 shots for his fourth win of the young season.   Team leading scorer Austin Combs continued his torrid State leading point pace with one goal and two assists, while Gold lineys Pierce Ashcroft sniped his sixth goal of the young season and Mack Musialowski had two assists. James Pennebaker and Josh Raya also lit the lamp with a goal apiece, the first of the year for each and Senior Captain Ben Kozar netted what turned out to be the game winner for his third goal in the last two games with assists to Silver Line Mates Tyler Tori and Tristan Ingram-Reeve.  Kaz Bowring added an assist to complete the scoring. As great as the win was, the Mavs suffered an apparent broken ankle injury to Sophomore Matthew Rowe.  Rowe was tripped into the boards immediately after making a great pass that led to speedy forward Pennebaker's goal.   The Mavs travel to Brighton's KVIH next Thursday at 7PM for a huge LVC game against back-to back league champs South Lyon Unified after three days of needed practices.
