MAVS: 5
LAKELAND HIGH SCHOOL: 6

The many fans in attendance were treated to a fast paced and well played hockey contest between the Mavericks and Lakeland Eagles Wednesday night at Lakeland.  The Eagles prevailed 6-5 in the rematch of Milford's win in December.

The game was played in honor of the legacy of Matt Langley and the Matt Langley Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to the promotion and financing of life-saving heart defect screens for students.  The Foundation also awards two $1000 scholarships annually to one player from each of the Milford and Lakeland hockey teams through donations and support of the Foundation's annual golf outing.

The Mavs blasted out of the gate, scoring just 23 seconds after puck drop, Austin Combs with a top shelf snipe from a perfect pass from Mack Musialowski with a secondary apple to Pierce Ashcroft.  Lakeland would score the next three to stake the Eagles to a 3-1 lead after one period.

The first four minutes of the second was a flurry of activity, as the teams traded goals resulting in a 5-3 Lakeland lead with 13 minutes remaining in the period.  Milford's Tristan Ingram-Reeve one timed a perfect feed from Ben Kozar with a secondary to Tyler Tori followed by Combs second goal from Adam Moule and Thomas Kennedy for the Mav's goals.

Lakeland scored on a power play deflection near the end of the period to make it 6-3 after two.

The Mavs scored within the first minute of the third, Mack Musialowski one timing a dart off of a beautiful tic-tac-toe play from Combs and Ashcroft to bring Milford within two with plenty of game left.

Both teams generated several scoring opportunities before Milford's Kazuma Bowring buried an across the royal road feed from Combs with help from Ashcroft, his third assist of the game, to make it 6-5 with a little over four minutes to go.

The Mavs pulled tendy Tyler Kerr, who finished with 36 saves, and generated some quality chances with the extra attacker, but couldn't get the equalizer, finally succumbing to the Eagles after 51 minutes of back and forth action.

Both student sections were well represented and raucous, with the MavManiacs and Blue Crew trying to outdo one another and help energize their hard battling classmates.

Milford travels to Troy Saturday night to face Notre Dame Marist with a 6:10 start time.
