Boys Varsity Ice Hockey vs. Bloomfield Hills HS School

Game Date
Feb 22, 2020
Score
MAVS: 3
BLOOMFIELD HILLS HIGH SCHOOL: 4

The Mavericks saw their three game winning streak come to an exciting end Saturday afternoon at the OAA Showcase, as the Bloomfield Hills Black Hawks (17-7-1) beat Milford (13-12) in a shootout after the tilt was tied at 3 after three.

The Hawks took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, firing 15 shots at Mav tendy Tyler Kerr to the Milford's 7 against Hawk goalie Jeremy Kahan.

Milford was a different team in the second, taking the play to Bloomfield Hills and flipping both the shot totals and score, with Pierce Ashcroft getting the skunk out of the box at the 12:35 mark with assists from lineys Mack Musialowski and Austin Combs before the Mavs' Senior line knotted it at 2 with Tyler Tori filling after 30 seconds of sharkish forechecking with apples to Tristan Ingram-Reeve and Ben Kozar.

The Mavs started the third period with 21 seconds remaining on a power play, but an unfortunate bounce resulted in a shorty and 3-2 lead for the Hawks.  Milford's Kozar tied it at 3 with an assist to Tori with 10:29 to go.  Both tendys made nice saves the rest of the way to send the game to a three player shootout instead of the usual 8 minute OT, per Showcase rules.

The Hawk's first shooter, Kyle Lucia, sniped a wicked wrister on the Mav's Kerr which turned out to be the difference, as Bloomfield Hills' goaltender Kahan stymied all three of Milford's leading goal scorers, Musialowski, Combs and Kozar, on their attempts.

Kerr finished with the game with 30 saves and completed the regular season with an excellent .915 save percentage.

The game was a solid primer for the Mavs as they take on Cranbrook Kingswood Wednesday night, 7:15PM at Southfield Civic Arena in a rematch of last year's Regional Cranes' victory.  Cranbrook is coming off of a 2-1 win over #3 ranked overall in the State, Brother Rice, so Milford will have to be at their best to upset the heavily favored Cranes.

"If we play tough in the tough areas, smart in the smart areas, minimize careless passes and put it all together like we've been shooting for all season, I like our chances," said Coach Gagnon in a postgame conference call.

We're hopeful to see a sea of red and black Mav Faithful and MavManiacs in Southfield Wednesday night!
