HIGHLAND – Senior leaders keep it close, but a late run puts away the Milford girls
varsity basketball team in their season debut.
The Mavericks opened their 2018-19 campaign with a hard-fought 39-27 loss to the
visiting Ypsilanti Grizzlies.

Milford came out of the gates quickly, building a 7-0 lead in the first four minutes
before Ypsi pulled even at the end of the first quarter. The Mavs went into halftime
down just a point when the Grizzlies were unable to convert multiple second chance
opportunities. At the end of three, the game was still within reach at 25-21, but the
team from Ypsilanti was able to pull away late and cement their 12 point win.

Senior Abby Knapp lead the Mavericks with 7 points. Allison Smith (Sr.) chipped in 6
and grabbed 8 rebounds while Freshman Jenna Hoppe made her Milford debut with
4 points, 4 rebounds and a steal.

Next up for Milford (0-1), a trip to Pinckney (0-1) for a Thursday night match-up with the Pirates.
