The Milford boys swim and dive team wrapped up a strong performance at the MHSAA State Finals, finishing 16th overall with 41 team points. The Mavericks were excited to welcome three new state meet participants to this year’s team, adding valuable experience and depth to the program.

Leading the way for Milford was Sam Campbell, who delivered an outstanding performance in the pool. Campbell captured the State Championship in the 100 backstroke with a new varsity record time of 47.95. He also placed 4th in the 200 freestyle, setting another varsity record with a time of 1:38.10.

Several other Mavericks competed well at the state level. Tommy Shaw placed 28th in the 100 butterfly while recording a new personal best time. Nick Marinescu finished 34th in the 100 freestyle, and Ralph Walter placed 35th in the diving competition.

Milford also saw success in its relay events. The 200 medley relay team of Sam Campbell, Thomas Kiebel, Tommy Shaw, and Nick Marinescu placed 15th while setting a new varsity record with a time of 1:36.54.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Nick Marinescu, Michael Nowicki, Thomas Kiebel, and Tommy Shaw placed 27th, while the 400 freestyle relay team of Nick Marinescu, Tommy Shaw, Thomas Kiebel, and Sam Campbell finished 19th.

Overall, it was an impressive showing for the Mavericks at the state meet, highlighted by a state championship, multiple varsity records, and strong performances from both veteran and first-time state qualifiers.

Boy’s Swim & Dive Senior Night Recap

The boys swim and dive team celebrated Senior Night in style with an exciting 91–84 victory over Walled Lake United. The night was filled with energy, emotion, and standout performances as the seniors led the way and the team came together for a memorable win.

The senior 200 medley relay of Sam Campbell, Nick Marinescu, Tommy Shaw, and Ralph Walter set the tone early, taking 1st place and igniting the crowd.

Individually, the seniors dominated:

• Sam Campbell placed 1st in the 200 IM and 100 Back
• Tommy Shaw captured 1st in the 200 Free and 100 Free
• Nick Marinescu finished 2nd in the 50 Free and 100 Free

Ralph Walter earned 1st place in diving with a new personal best score, then followed it up with a 4th place finish in the 100 Free with a new season best time.

As a team, the boys posted seven new personal bests, highlighting the continued growth and momentum heading into the postseason.

It was a perfect way to honor the seniors — with a hard-fought win, big performances, and a night they’ll never forget.

The boys swim team delivered a strong performance at the Oakland County Swim and Dive Championships, finishing 13th overall against some of the top programs in the county.

The relay teams set the tone early with impressive finishes. The 200 medley relay team of Sam Campbell, Thomas Kiebel, Tommy Shaw, and Nick Marinescu placed 10th, while the 200 free relay squad of Tommy Shaw, Nick Marinescu, Michael Nowicki, and Sam Campbell earned a 6th-place finish, one of the team’s top results of the meet.

Individually, Sam Campbell led the way with an outstanding showing, placing 2nd in the 200 freestyle and 3rd in the 100 backstroke, earning two podium finishes.
Tommy Shaw added strong depth, finishing 21st in the 200 freestyle and 16th in the 100 freestyle.
Nick Marinescu competed well in the sprint events, taking 23rd in the 50 freestyle and 29th in the 100 freestyle.
Thomas Kiebel rounded out the scoring efforts with a 35th-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.

Overall, the team’s 13th-place finish reflects a competitive showing and continued progress against elite county competition.

Tommy Shaw recorded new season-best times in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly, while Sam Campbell delivered an impressive performance with season-best swims in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke, earning first place in both events.

The momentum carried into the 400 Freestyle Relay, where Nick Marinescu, Michael Nowicki, Daniel Beach, and Ralph Walter all swam personal-best relay splits, capping off a strong team effort.
