POWERS CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL: 7
The Mavs came to play, but didn't have quite enough to hold off a solid and balanced Flint Powers Catholic, losing 7-2 Tuesday night at Flint's Icelander Arenas.
The game was tied 2-2 after one, with Milford (10-11) getting a sweet one timer from Kazuma Bowring off of a cross zone feed from Pierce Ashcroft with a secondary assist from Austin Combs and a goal from Tyler Tori, the result of some heavy forechecking pressure from lineys Ben Kozar and Tristan Ingram-Reeve.
Powers scored two in the second to take a 4-2 lead into the second intermission, but scored just 11 seconds into the third to take a comfortable 3 goal lead, which was too much for Milford to overcome.
Mav tendy Tyler Kerr was busy and made some spectacular saves against the high octane Powers offense and finished with 53 saves, while his counterpart made 18.
Milford hosts the next three games at Hartland, taking on Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard Thursday 7PM, the Bay Area Thunder Saturday 7:30 PM and the M-1 Griffins Unified Saturday February 15 at 7:30PM, which is also Senior Night.
"When you play good team like Powers, there's little margin for error. We've got to keep it simple, win the battles, and want it more than they do," said fourth year Coach Gagnon.
Please come on out and cheer on your Milford Hockey Team as they continue to represent our School and Community with class and discipline while they prepare for their State Tournament Regional clash with Cranbrook February 26 at Southfield.
