The Mavericks found themselves down by four goals to highly ranked South Lyon Unified, a team comprised of both South Lyon high schools, after almost two full periods of action, before team leading point producer Junior Austin Combs scored a power play goal from Freshmen Mack Musialowski with 2:23 to go in the second to breathe some life into the hard working Mavs.  Junior Dominic Leto followed with another power play goal less than a minute later with assists from Senior Captain Ben Kozar and Musialowski to get Milford within two after two.

SLU scored the next goal at the 13:39 mark of the third period to take a 5-2 lead, before the Mavs converted on yet another power play, Musialowski with his second of the night from lineys Combs and Sophomore Pierce Ashcroft to pull back within two, 5-3 at 12:56 of the third.

Fans in attendance were treated to a fast paced and action packed third period between the first and second place Lakes Valley Conference teams as Milford hung tough with the 17th ranked team in the State (out of 139) before SLU netted two empty net goals in the last three minutes as well as an even strength goal with 15 seconds to go for the 8-3 victory.

Milford goalie Tyler Kerr was his usual sharp self with 44 saves while SLU's Andrew Lowen made 32 stops.

The Mavs travel to Lakeland Wednesday for a 7:20 drop against league rival the Eagles in what should be a doozy of a tilt.  If you're a hockey fan, or even if you aren't, you don't want to miss this one.
