BISHOP FOLEY HIGH SCHOOL: 1
Your hockey Mavs opened the season with a decisive 9-1 victory over Foley United Wednesday night at Hartland.
The Mavs were spurred on by a raucous student section, led by the famous MavPack, as they bolted out of the starting gate with a goal just 13 seconds into the game, Senior Tyler Tori burying the biscuit with Senior Tristan Ingram-Reeve's help. Milford continued their onslaught with 5 total goals in the first to Foley's one, then added 3 in the second and one early in the third period invoking the mercy rule sending both teams to their locker rooms just two minutes into the stanza.
The Mavs were led by Sophomore Pierce Ashcroft, who earned the Milford Mav MVP Chain for his efforts, and last year's leading scorer, Junior Austin Combs, with two goals and two assists each. Tori finished with two goals, while Junior Kaz Bowring and Freshmen Mack Musialowski each had a goal and two helpers, Sophomore Brenden Maszatics and Junior Liam Markell each lit the lamp, while Senior Captains Ben Kozar and Ingram-Reeve each chipped in with assists, as did Freshmen Thomas Kennedy, Junior Nick Bow and Sophomore Adam Moule.
Freshmen Shane Quinn finished with a formidable +4, meaning he was on the ice for four Maverick goals and zero Foley goals, as was Austin Combs and Moule, while Kennedy and Ashcroft were both +3.
Senior tendy Tyler Kerr made nine saves in the first before giving way to Sophomore Harris Partyka, who finished with seven saves during the second and a few minutes of the third.
The Mavs charter a bus to Sault Ste. Marie for the prestigious Soo Eagles Showcase this weekend with games against host Sault Ste. Marie Friday night in the marquee matchup and Big Rapids Saturday afternoon.
Milford's next home game is Wednesday, an important league tilt against Walled Lake Central/Waterford United at 8PM. Please come on out and support! We may just have some special gifts for our Mav Hockey Faithful...
