Trevor LeBlanc scored what proved to be the game winner for the Knights of Walled Lake North on a power play goal early in the third period as the Knights ended up winning a tight battle with the Mavs 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Lakeland.
Both goalies were busy as Milford's Tyler Kerr and Walled Lake's Brady Arens each made key breakaway saves, with the Mavs' Kerr ending up with 37 saves and Arens with 26 stops.
Junior Tristan Ingram-Reeve scored a power play goal for the Mavs late in the second period to even the game at one going into the second intermission. Sophomores Josh Raya and Kaz Bowring assisted on Ingram-Reeves' goal.
The Mavs played without Junior Ben Kozar who is expected back in January, and Senior Captain Sam Hewitt who is doubtful to return this season because of a broken femur.
"It looks like we're going to have to change up our attack and play a more traditional 3-2 system and trap more and pressure less, which, unfortunately, because of our dwindling roster, we really have no choice but to do," said third year Milford Coach Dennis Gagnon.
The Mavs have four days of practice before going on the road Friday night at Berkley and Saturday night at Clarkston.
