Your Hockey Mavs beat the Lakeland Eagles 5-3 Monday night at Hartland to bring the Milford Barber's Cup back to Milford after seven seasons of futility.
The Mavs were led by Senior Tendy Tyler Kerr who finished with 47 saves, many key glove offs and Junior Dominic Leto who banged in two power play goals early in the second period to earn Dom the coveted Mav Chain which will surely hang loosely on his neck at school Tuesday and maybe even Wednesday.
Milford took a convincing 5-1 lead into the third, behind Liam Markell's early first period bad angle snipe with an assist to Senior Captain Ben Kozar, before Kozar scored unassisted for a 2-0 Milford lead, which prefaced Leto's two hardworking, rebound bang homes before Zoom Bowring blasted his first of the year from state leading point getter Junior Austin Combs, who finished with two assists and five shots on net.
The Eagles refused to yield and toss in the towel and battled right down to the last minute before the final horn.
The joint was packed with MavManiacs, the Mav Faithful and an impressive contingent of traveling Lakeland fans.
The Mavs travel to Rochester Stoney Creek for a non-league Thursday night tilt before heading to Lakeland Saturday for another non-league game against West Bloomfield 2PM at Lakeland.
"What an awesome night of high school hockey!" exclaimed Milford Coach Gagnon, "Big crowd, big win for our Mavs against a very talented and well coached Eagle squad, and an all around awesome night at our Home arena!"
